Each mark is our reading of where something stands today, not a verdict on the people who hold it. Half: real, but private or gated.
Empty: advertised, but does not exist yet.
A course: it prepares you, it does not certify you, so it gets three small dots instead of a shield: depth, real assessment, and what it confers, each its own mark, never averaged into one number. Free courses, official exam prep, university programmes, private institute/executive programmes, international and intergovernmental programmes, and bootcamps each get their own tab below, so you are never comparing a MOOC to a master's by accident.

How to read the marks. A struck brass shield means a credential is real and independently accredited. A half-struck shield means it exists but is private, gated behind another qualification, or not accredited by a national body. A hollow shield means the scheme does not exist yet, however much it is being advertised. The full rubric, what we check and how a standing changes, is on the methodology page.
Where you see "verify". Some prices, scopes, and accreditation claims change often, or are advertised before they are real. Where a detail needs checking against the primary source before you rely on it, we say so rather than guess. Being the accurate record is the whole job.
Courses get a scorecard, not a shield. Open any course entry for three plain marks, depth, real assessment, and what it actually confers, plus whether the mark is based on us completing the course or reading its public materials. Explained in full on the methodology page.
Standing is dated and versioned. When it changes, the change is dated and kept visible, not quietly overwritten. Last reviewed 9 September 2026.
