Privacy
What we hold, and what we refuse to.
Our whole business is being trustworthy. A privacy policy that hid the awkward parts would be self-defeating, so this one is written to be read, not to be survived. It is a plain-language summary, and we will keep it current. Last updated 1 September 2026. See also our Terms of use and Cookie policy.
The short version
- Your gap report belongs to you. We do not publish it, rank it, or show it to an employer, ever, unless you tell us to, for a named role, one time.
- We keep the data our different services need in separate places. The talent desk cannot see the register. The register cannot see your gap report.
- We never sell your data, and we take no money from anyone we rate, so we have nothing to gain from passing you around.
- You can ask us to delete everything we hold about you, and we will, without argument.
Who we are
Ethics Directive is the data controller for this site. If you want to reach a human about any of this, write to privacy@ethicsdirective.org, and a person, not a form, will answer.
What we collect, and why
We only collect what a given action needs, and we keep those pools apart on purpose.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. There is no version of our business that involves it.
- We do not use your gap report to decide anything about you without you.
- We do not let one part of Ethics Directive quietly feed another. Consent is per purpose, and moving your data between services means asking you again.
- We do not run advertising trackers on you. Any analytics we use are privacy-respecting and aggregate.
Your rights
Where the UK GDPR and EU GDPR apply, you have the right to see what we hold, correct it, delete it, take it elsewhere, and object to a use. Ask, and we act within a month, usually far sooner. You can also complain to your data protection authority, though we would rather you told us first so we can fix it.
How long we keep things
Email-list data until you unsubscribe. Talent and enquiry data for as long as the conversation is live, then deleted on request or after a dormant period. Gap-report profiles until you ask us to remove them. We do not hoard.
Where do you actually stand?
Sixteen questions, six minutes. You rate yourself on each competence area, from “not yet” to “I could evidence this to an assessor”. We hand back a profile, your strongest ground, and the gaps worth closing first. Nothing is stored unless you ask us to send it.
